Residential Driveways
Huntsville, AL
From new construction in Hampton Cove to tear-out-and-replace jobs on 1980s driveways in Five Points, we install asphalt driveways engineered specifically for North Alabama's expansive clay subgrades and freeze-thaw climate. Every driveway gets the same base prep we'd put on a commercial lot — that's why ours last.
What's Included
Built right the first time.
Engineered base, not just topcoat
We excavate to firm subgrade, install geotextile fabric over expansive clay common in Madison County, then compact 6–8" of crushed aggregate in lifts. Skip this step and you'll see cracks within 18 months.
Hot-mix asphalt rated for AL summers
We spec PG 67-22 binder — soft enough to flex through 25°F January nights, stiff enough to resist rutting in 95°F July heat. Surface laid 2.5–3" compacted.
Proper drainage planning
Tennessee Valley storms drop 4 inches in an afternoon. We grade to shed water away from your foundation and grade transitions so you don't get standing puddles.
Clean edges and tie-ins
Saw-cut transitions to garage slabs, sidewalks, and roads. No ragged hand-formed edges that crumble in the first winter.
5-year workmanship warranty
Written, signed, and honored. We're 20 minutes away if anything's not right.
Investment
Most Huntsville-area driveways run $4.50–$7.50 per square foot for new install or full replacement, depending on excavation, demolition, and base condition. Overlays start lower. We give detailed line-item estimates — no vague 'about $X' numbers.
Our Process
From estimate to a surface that lasts.
Free on-site estimate
We measure, sound the existing surface, check drainage, and write you a fixed-price quote within 24 hours.
Demo & deep prep
Existing asphalt removed, subgrade compacted, fabric and aggregate base installed and rolled in lifts.
Pave & compact
Hot-mix delivered straight from the plant, paver-laid, and roller-compacted while still at temp for proper density.
Cure & enjoy
Drive on it in 2–3 days; full cure in 30. We recommend sealcoating after 12 months and every 2–3 years after.
FAQ
Questions Huntsville homeowners ask.
How long does an asphalt driveway last in Huntsville?
Properly installed and maintained, 20–30 years. The North Alabama freeze-thaw cycle is harder on driveways than the Gulf Coast, so sealcoating every 2–3 years and crack-sealing as soon as you see cracks will make a huge difference.
Asphalt or concrete for a Huntsville driveway?
Asphalt costs roughly half as much, installs in 1–2 days vs. 1–2 weeks, and you can drive on it in 48 hours. It also handles our clay subgrade movement better — concrete tends to crack along expansion joints when the soil shifts.
Can you pave over my existing driveway?
Sometimes. If the base is sound and the surface is structurally intact (no alligator cracking, no sinking), a 1.5–2" overlay is a great budget option. If the base has failed, an overlay just hides the problem temporarily — we'll tell you straight.
What's the best time of year to pave in Huntsville?
April through October is ideal. We can pave year-round, but ambient temps below 50°F mean the mix cools too fast for proper compaction. Spring and fall give you the best balance of lay temperature and cure conditions.
Do you handle the permit?
City of Huntsville and Madison residential driveway replacements typically don't require permits, but new driveway aprons connecting to a public road do. We handle all permitting where required and work with HOAs on covenant approvals.
