Repair & Patching

Asphalt Repair
Huntsville, AL

Huntsville winters punish asphalt. Water seeps into hairline cracks, freezes overnight, expands, and pries the pavement apart cycle after cycle. By March you've got alligator cracking, edge raveling, and potholes that get worse every storm. We stop the damage before it spreads — and we do it right so the patch doesn't fail in six months.

What's Included

Built right the first time.

Crack sealing (the cheapest insurance you'll buy)

Hot-applied rubberized crack filler stops water infiltration. A $400 crack-seal job today routinely prevents a $4,000 repair next winter. We catch cracks while they're still 1/4" wide.

Pothole patching done right

We saw-cut clean square edges, remove the failed material down to firm base, tack the cut faces, and patch with hot-mix compacted to spec. No cold-patch shovel-and-go that pops out in 90 days.

Infrared patching

For surface defects without base failure, infrared heats and reblends existing asphalt with new mix — seamless, no cold joint, no water entry point.

Edge repair & catch basin work

Edge raveling along driveways and the failed asphalt rings around storm drains and manholes are our specialty. We handle the transition properly.

Honest assessments

If your lot needs full reconstruction, we'll tell you. We don't sell patch jobs that just delay the inevitable.

Investment

Crack sealing typically $0.85–$2.00 per linear foot. Saw-cut patches run $8–$15 per square foot depending on depth and base condition. Most residential repair calls land in the $400–$2,500 range.

FAQ

Questions Huntsville homeowners ask.

Why does asphalt crack so much in North Alabama?

Three reasons: (1) Our soil — expansive Decatur clay swells and shrinks dramatically with moisture. (2) Freeze-thaw — Huntsville averages 40+ freeze-thaw cycles per winter. Water gets into a hairline crack at 4pm, freezes by midnight, expands 9% in volume, and pries the crack wider. Repeat 40 times. (3) UV degradation — our intense summer sun oxidizes the binder, making the surface brittle and crack-prone.

When is a crack worth sealing vs. waiting?

If you can fit a credit card edge into the crack (about 1/8" or wider), seal it now. Below that you're fine. Above 3/8" or with branching cracks, you're past sealing and into patching territory.

Will the patch match the rest of my driveway?

Fresh asphalt is jet black; aged asphalt is grey. Patches will be visibly darker for 6–12 months until they oxidize and weather to match. Sealcoating the entire surface after the patch cures is the only way to get a fully uniform look.

How fast can you get out for an emergency repair?

Same-week for residential, same-day or next-day for commercial liability situations (potholes that could damage vehicles or injure customers). Call us and tell us what you're seeing.

Can you fix a sunken section of driveway?

Sometimes — depends on cause. If it's failed base, we have to excavate and rebuild that section. If it's just settled aggregate, an infrared or overlay patch works. We'll tell you straight after looking at it.
